03 Main Stand

Wow!

From manager and players to fans and the media, that's been the general reaction to Anfield's expanded Main Stand…

Jürgen Klopp

“It is one of the nicest stands I have seen in my life. This is the best thing we could do in a stadium like this. This club is built on our history [and] this is better than before. The acoustic is even better than before – another benefit, so everyone who comes here be as loud as you can…

“It’s hard to underestimate the value to us, as a club, to staying here at Anfield; it is our home after all. Like most people in football I had heard all the stories about the ‘magic’ of Anfield and I had been lucky, before becoming manager, to have visited. But it’s not until you are here, as part of this club, that you can truly appreciate how important Anfield is to what the club stands for. So, our owners have found a way to make our home better, more appropriate for the modern game and the challenges that come with that. More people can enjoy supporting the team from inside our home. I am hugely proud to be here for it.”

Adam Lallana

“We definitely feel it. The whole stand feels completely different – it's almost made the pitch feel bigger at times. It's definitely noisier and we have to use that as a positive for ourselves going forward this season.”

Robbie Fowler

“The new-look Main Stand is magnificent. When you think back to the old stand you realise how much it needed doing, but it's the impact the redevelopment could potentially have for Liverpool FC on the pitch that really interests me.

“With the added noise-levels from the Main Stand I'm hoping that teams come here and feel a little awestruck… Some players can wilt when confronted by a red-hot atmosphere and that's something I think Liverpool supporters can produce here to give the team an advantage.”

Lucas Leiva

“The atmosphere has been incredible. We've all noticed that with another 8,500 people inside the ground the noise is louder and that helps us. I feel like Anfield has changed now with the set-up of the new stand. We know it is still Anfield, but it feels like a new stadium. The fans are really excited – it feels different – and it's reminded us of how important Anfield is for the club now and in the future.”

Kevin Stewart

“The new-look Anfield is loud! The volume at the first home game of this season, the 4-1 win over Leicester City, was different. It was so loud and then when you look up at the Main Stand and see it, it is just so high. It really is special.

“We'd trained at Anfield a couple of days beforehand and it was good to go there and see it before a main match, get a feel for the changing-rooms that are in for a couple of months and so on. My dad was at the match but he was in the lower tier. He enjoys going to the games and I'm sure he'll want to see one from higher up in the stand before too long!”

Tom Werner, Club Chairman

“Redeveloping the Main Stand has been about improving our home rather than having to abandon it in the name of progress. We want what all Liverpool supporters want – future success on the pitch. Anfield isn’t just where we play matches. Anfield is home and it’s as much part of the identity of the club as the Liver Bird on the crest of the shirt… It marks a new chapter for this football club. We look to the future while respecting our past and, most importantly, we continue our journey at Anfield.”

The Daily Telegraph

“A new dawn at Liverpool. The sparkling grandstand that towers over Stanley Park... Speaks of the club's ambition. Not so much the speed of service at the refreshment outlets or the wide open spaces of the toilet facilities but the ability of Jürgen Klopp’s new Liverpool team to match their surroundings. Klopp’s refashioned side seem determined to mirror the expansive architectural developments.”

Anfield has opened for business in style… “Fill it with life,” Jürgen Klopp has instructed and his team has obliged, filling Anfield with goals, incisiveness and optimism.”
