Furness Makes A Big Impression
Liverpool FC Women midfielder Rachel Furness has helped the Reds' hopes of beating the drop since she arrived from Reading FC Women during the winter transfer window. The Northern Ireland international has offered leadership as well as a significant goal threat as the team looks to stay in the Barclays FA Women's Super League.
The Reds find themselves propping up the table after falling into the one relegation place following a 4-2 defeat at West Ham United Women in their last fixture. However, Furness was a spark of light as she scored both the Reds' goals, taking her tally to four in as many games.

She also grabbed the winner at relegation rivals Bristol City Women FC and netted a spectacular volley in the 2-3 defeat to reigning champions Arsenal Women at Chester last month.
The 31-year-old's goal in that game against the Gunners at the Deva Stadium finished fourth in the poll for the Reds' Goal of the Month for February on liverpoolfc.com. Her all-action displays also saw her as a leading candidate to win the club's Standard Chartered Player of the Month award for February.
“Furny has been a brilliant signing for us,” says manager Vicky Jepson. “She has come in and it feels like she's been here for a very long time already. She's really bought into what we are trying to do, she's given us another leader out on the field and in the changing room and she's taken a couple of the younger players under her wing and been a very positive role model for them.
“She has also offered us a significant goal threat and a cutting edge going forward. We struggled for goals earlier in the season but since she's arrived, we always feel that we can find the back of the net.”

Attacker Niamh Charles shares those opinions. “She’s been a breath of fresh air,” she explains. “She’s come in and she’s not been shy. She’s shown herself as a leader straightaway and has been a massive influence on the group already. She’s very positive, very experienced and hopefully she can add another part to our game that can lift us on and off the pitch.”
Liverpool FC Women have eight games remaining when the season resumes following the coronavirus pandemic.
