Goalkeepers
Bruce Grobbelaar
Appearances: 38
Clean sheets: 12
One of only two players to be ever-present during Liverpool FC's 18th league title success, goalkeeper Grobbelaar kept 12 clean sheets during his 38 games and conceded 37 goals – the fewest in the division, but a relatively high number for the champions. Eight of those goals came in a four-game spell in later October/early November when Kenny Dalglish's side lost to Southampton FC (1-4), Coventry City FC (0-1) and Queens Park Rangers FC (2-3). But the Reds only lost two other league games all season and the Zimbabwean's 12 clean sheets, including four in a row in late August/early September, were a crucial part in that. Known for his eccentric style of goalkeeping, his best save was a one-handed flick over the crossbar from Manchester United FC's Brian McClair during the Reds' 2-1 win at Old Trafford in March. It was Grobbelaar's sixth Championship success with the Redmen – a Club record for a goalkeeper.

Mike Hooper
Appearances: 0
Clean sheets: 0
Clubs were only allowed to name two substitutes back in 1989/90, both of them outfield players. As a result, reserve goalkeeper Mike Hooper wasn't involved in a single league game all season. On the bench for the Charity Shield, a 1-0 win against Arsenal FC, Hooper instead played regularly for the Liverpool FC Reserves side that won the 1989/90 Central League title under the management of Phil Thompson.
