He was born in Egypt on 15 June 1992 and is the first Egyptian to have played for LFC.
Mo will wear the number 11 shirt for Liverpool after Roberto Firmino agreed to switch to the number nine shirt. “I appreciate what Firmino did – I have to thank him very much,” said a happy Salah. “I like the number 11; it was my number in Rome and also the national team before. I like this number. I have to thank him.”
Maybe you've never heard of them, but Mo began his career back home in Egypt with a club called El Mokawloon. He then moved to Switzerland to join FC Basel – the city the Reds played in against Sevilla in the 2016 Europa League final. Mo's next move was to Chelsea in 2014 but he only played 19 times for them before heading to Italy to join Fiorentina on loan. Salah did so well there that Roma wanted to sign him so off he went to the Stadio Olimpico – the stadium where Liverpool FC won two European Cups in 1977 and 1984!
The flying winger scored 34 goals in two years in Rome and Jürgen Klopp was so impressed that he decided to bring him to Anfield to play for the mighty Reds! Now Mo can't wait to get going: “I’m excited! We have a great team and very good players. I hope to see that together we can give everything to win something for the club, for the supporters and for us.”
