It meant that clubs could continue to sign players throughout the season and the Reds bought four future stars during October in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, including a man who won more trophies than any other Liverpool FC player!
Right-back Phil Neal was Bob Paisley's first signing from Northampton Town on 9th October 1974 and he went on to win 17 major honours with LFC including eight league titles and four European Cups – one more than Manchester United!

Another European Cup winner arrived at Anfield on 22nd October 1981 – Scottish full-back Stevie Nicol who played in the 1984 European Cup final against AS Roma. He was also part of Kenny Dalglish's league and FA Cup double-winning side in 1986 and a year later linked up with right-sided midfielder Ray Houghton, who was signed from Oxford United on 19th October 1987 and went on to land two league titles and two FA Cups in a red shirt.
Then on 4th October 1991 Liverpool FC signed a young right-back from Crewe Alexandra called Rob Jones who became a huge favourite on the Kop but somehow failed to score a single goal in 243 games for LFC! Luckily he was a brilliant defender and some older fans even say he was the best right-back to play at Anfield in the Premier League!
